Risk & Quality

Our focus on maintaining a safe and sustainable work environment forms an integral part of Shodo Civils’ value system.

Shodo Civils holds itself to the very highest SHERQ standards. Construction is inherently a high-risk activity and we recognize that we have a moral and legal obligation to safeguard and protect the wellbeing of our employees, clients and everyone present on our construction sites and at our premises. We also recognize that as a responsible corporate citizen, we have a moral and legal obligation to reducing and effectively managing the impact our operations have on the environment and the communities within which we operate. We continuously strive to promoting a culture of Zero is no accident, and a culture of Excellence and continual improvement throughout the organization.

Shodo Civils implements and maintains an integrated SHERQ management system that fulfils the requirements of industry standards and best practice which demonstrates our commitment to safety, our drive towards excellence and our focus on quality, every time, whatever it takes throughout our operations.

Our culture of Zero is no accident extends not only to safeguarding our most valuable asset, our people, but also to the communities we serve and the environment we work in.

Occupational Health & Safety

Shodo Civils holds itself to the highest health and safety standards. Our Zero is no accident culture empowers every single employee to take ownership of health and safety in the workplace and responsibility for “I am my brother’s keeper.” This behaviour based approach sees management focus on visible felt leadership (VFL) and operational site staff focus on planned task observations (PTO).

We apply best practice when implementing our safety policies and procedures, and although our safety management system is ISO 45001 certified, we recognize that policies, procedures and systems alone do not create a safe working environment, which is why we continue to promote and entrench a Zero is no accident culture amongst our employees through regular awareness initiatives which include preventative and training programs.

Environmental Management

The construction industry is currently deemed a high impact industry and as a responsible corporate citizen, we have a moral and legal obligation to safeguard the environment and the wellbeing of all those affected by our operations. The importance of protecting the environment is something which we have embraced.

We apply best practice when implementing our environmental policies and procedures, and although our environmental management system is ISO 14001 certified, we recognize that policies, procedures and systems alone do not create an environmentally conscious workforce, which is why we continue to promote and entrench a Zero is no accident culture amongst our employees through regular awareness and education.

Risk Management

Construction is inherently a high-risk activity and in recent years, the emergence of the construction mafia has exacerbated the risks faced by contractors delivering public infrastructure projects.

As a responsible corporate citizen, we fully acknowledge our moral and legal obligation to safeguard and protect the wellbeing of our employees, clients and everyone present on our construction sites and premises. We also have a legal obligation to safeguard our shareholders’ interests. In light of this, Shodo Civils holds itself to high risk management standards

We apply best practice when implementing our risk management policies and procedures, and although our risk management system is not yet ISO certified, however, it is aligned with the requirements of ISO 31000:2009. We continuously promote and entrench a risk conscious culture throughout the organization.

Quality Management

Shodo Civils holds itself to the highest quality standards, and in line with the organization’s PVMV Statement, we strive to ensure the highest levels of quality are achieved throughout our operations. Our management and construction teams are driven to Excellence and focused on Quality, every time, whatever it takes!

Reputation, which is a key pillar of our Shodo Civils way, sees us actively work to build a reputation of reliability through a drive to Excellence and a focus on Quality in our people, systems and the infrastructure we build. In addition to maintaining our reputation, it is important for our construction teams to “do it right the first time.” as repeat work reduces profit margins in an already highly contested environment.

The aim of quality management is to ensure that the highest levels of quality are consistently attained on all projects by applying the latest best practices and by continually improving our processes.

Our quality management system is ISO 9001certified and our commitment to Excellence and Quality sees us continue to promote and entrench a culture of Excellence amongst our employees through training and upskilling programs.
